Exordium

After the success of the last event ‘Prelusion’, MimosaLiFE is proud to announce the next in the series – ‘Exordium’.

The aim of Mimosa is to provide a promotional platform for local creatives, whether it be designers, models, photographers, musicians or dancers. The orchestrating of regular events allows us to showcase a range of unique talent. ‘Exordium’ will be a full runway show featuring luxury but affordable formalwear, knitwear, menswear, urban fashion and bridal wear from six of Scotland’s up and coming designers – Hardwear, Naromode, Nutmeg Couture/Bridal, Di Gilpin, Arsalan & Jonathan Gardner Creations.

As head of PR Mhairi Harris explains, there is a need for more accessible and approachable fashion shows in the Glasgow area.

Traditionally, shows can appear to be daunting, however, this intimate location allows for the audience to see, breath and almost ‘touch’ the fashion.

It is also extremely exciting to have an event like this relatively early on into a society’s founding. The society has always strived not to disappoint and finally to get people talking about local fashion again.”

The night will begin with our signature complimentary Mimosa champagne drinks reception, followed by the runway show and performances from local musicians, then the party will continue into the early morning with a DJ set from Sanctuary resident Grantos. It is the perfect opportunity to experience fashion first hand and to network with local creatives. If the success of our last event is anything to go by, Exordium promises to be very special indeed.

The event will be held at The Sanctuary, in Glasgow’s fashionable West End, on the 30th of January at 8.30pm.

Proceeds will be donated to the Scottish Spina Bifida Association, a charity which has had the continued support of MimosaLiFE.

Tickets can be obtained at the pre-party on Tuesday 28th January at the Black Rabbit (Great Western Road, Glasgow) or by contacting Mhairi Harris on 07825 872427. Additionally, there will be PR teams outside the University Library on Monday 27th for more information and ticket sales.

We hope to see you there.

In anticipation of the year ahead, the Committee members at MimosaLiFE organised a social/meeting on 24th of October 2013  at our  favourite Glaswegian watering holes  ‘Black Rabbit’ to advertise vacancies in   our events, creative and administration departments. Importantly  this event was  a second  warm welcome for old and new members at our society and a opportunity to liase with fellow fashion enthusiasts, photography lovers and creatives  over complimentary drinks and pizzas courtesy of our partners at Black Rabbit and fully sponsored guestlist/afterparty  by our friends at Sanctuary Glasgow.   In true Mimosa Fashion our music policy remained audacious as usual,  an eclectic playlist of deep house classics, 80s drenched synth-funk jams, 90s and early 2000s r&b borrowed from the  best of Timbaland and Neptune discography with a pinch of sultry 2013 quiet storm records a la Shy Girls.

Here our snapshots of some our favourite moments  captured by Mimosa darling Lera Kurova.

On Wednesday the 18th of September 2013, the MimosaLiFE team re-initiated their Oeuvre Street Fashion Series at the Fresher’s Fair.  Despite the wet dripped Glaswegian  morning, the atmosphere around the Glasgow University campus was nothing sort of electric. Autumn is a season  that often celebrates  for shades of grey, charcoal and black  in fashion, however the individuals we encountered displayed bold and colourful tones in the individual fashion choices.  We’ll like to give a massive thank to all those that participated in our street fashion photo shoot. Enjoy the photos below.

En Route [Finale]

On the 24th of June, the camera crew and representatives from MimosaLife embarked on a voyage to seek out fashionistas in the West end of Glasgow and City Center for its Oeuvre[Street Fashion Catalogue]. In the wake of a sun-kissed Glasgwegian day a rarity, they encountered individuals who demonstrated that Glasgow is a bona-fide fashion hub. Their personal taste in style spanned from quirky, classic, bold and elegant. Here are the photos of the individuals we encountered. Enjoy!

On Sunday 30th June, Mimosa Life re-initiated its Oeuvre Street Fashion Photo in the West end of Glasgow and City Center.  In the attempt to capture the fleeting Glaswegian summer and its sun kissed citizens we embarked on a promenade. To our amazement, we managed to find individuals that displayed boldness, uniqueness and eccentricity with regard to their fashion choices.

Amelia x Horus : Xcelsior Unveiled {Oeuvre Noir}

On Wednesday 29th of May at  the dim light Saint Judes venue, the creative minds at Mimosa Life unveiled the first two installments of their Limited Xcelsior Apparel Line  – Amelia and Horus. Both pieces  received mass praise and acclaim from  guests that attended the Xcelsior Launch on that day.  Notably, those in attendance were enamoured by the moody hand drawn illustrations screen printed onto a vintage, grungy  tee shirt  in hues of gold and yellow.

The black swan inspired illustration ‘Amelia’  explained by Creative director of the Xcelsior Project was symbolic of ‘the dedication and perseverance needed to master a craft or art form….even as elegant as ballet.’

Importantly, the creative director of the project explained that  the  ‘Horus’  piece is a juxtaposition  that draws from  eastern religions specifically the ‘Third eye’a state of higher consciousness and Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics ‘Eye of Horus’ which means ‘ sacrifice, royalty and protection.

Lastly, He stressed that the Xcelsior line ‘ from the outset these pieces may appear as a moody, dark and haunting  but its symbolism and hidden meanings are representative of the struggles and daunting experience it takes to achieve one’s dream.’

Below are some of the  photos of the event at large which featured Belfast born  folk/jazz singer songwriter Bronagh Monahan as the supporting act and Hip Hop Turntablist  Lil L as the headliner enjoy!

The Art of Animinimalism[Concepteur]

Black Penguin Girls Tee shirt, Animinimal

Black Penguin Girls Tee shirt, Animinimal

The Tee shirt has been described as the Alpha and Omega of the fashion alphabet, a timeless canvas that simultaneously expresses individuality and simplicity. Australian born designer Andrew Grech’s  interpretation of this classic piece of clothing continues this tradition and does so successfully with Animinimal. Initially, Grech was inspired to create a collection that married both fashion and music exemplified by his early conceptions of the brand ‘the white stag headphone t-shirt.’

White Stag, Animinimal

White Stag, Animinimal

Recently, Animinimal’s  reach has spread like wildfire throughout the UK – stalls in London, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Stirling and Glasgow and making appearances in fashion shows such as Nightwalk, Bold Souls, Glasgow University Magazines Launch Party and the International Students Fashion Show. Importantly, the brand has expanded  by releasing vests, jumpers and hoodies to its collection. Rest assured, Animinimal continues to prove that it is the perfect bedfellow/companion for the tee-shirt and jeans types and hedonist club goers. The sky is the limit for this brand which we acknowledged as one of our favourite collections in the 2013 International Student Fashion Show. Love, Share & Be Inspired.
