On Wednesday 29th of May at  the dim light Saint Judes venue, the creative minds at Mimosa Life unveiled the first two installments of their Limited Xcelsior Apparel Line  – Amelia and Horus. Both pieces  received mass praise and acclaim from  guests that attended the Xcelsior Launch on that day.  Notably, those in attendance were enamoured by the moody hand drawn illustrations screen printed onto a vintage, grungy  tee shirt  in hues of gold and yellow.

The black swan inspired illustration ‘Amelia’  explained by Creative director of the Xcelsior Project was symbolic of ‘the dedication and perseverance needed to master a craft or art form….even as elegant as ballet.’

Importantly, the creative director of the project explained that  the  ‘Horus’  piece is a juxtaposition  that draws from  eastern religions specifically the ‘Third eye’a state of higher consciousness and Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics ‘Eye of Horus’ which means ‘ sacrifice, royalty and protection.

Lastly, He stressed that the Xcelsior line ‘ from the outset these pieces may appear as a moody, dark and haunting  but its symbolism and hidden meanings are representative of the struggles and daunting experience it takes to achieve one’s dream.’

Below are some of the  photos of the event at large which featured Belfast born  folk/jazz singer songwriter Bronagh Monahan as the supporting act and Hip Hop Turntablist  Lil L as the headliner enjoy!

The Art of Animinimalism[Concepteur]

Black Penguin Girls Tee shirt, Animinimal

Black Penguin Girls Tee shirt, Animinimal

The Tee shirt has been described as the Alpha and Omega of the fashion alphabet, a timeless canvas that simultaneously expresses individuality and simplicity. Australian born designer Andrew Grech’s  interpretation of this classic piece of clothing continues this tradition and does so successfully with Animinimal. Initially, Grech was inspired to create a collection that married both fashion and music exemplified by his early conceptions of the brand ‘the white stag headphone t-shirt.’

Recently, Animinimal’s  reach has spread like wildfire throughout the UK – stalls in London, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Stirling and Glasgow and making appearances in fashion shows such as Nightwalk, Bold Souls, Glasgow University Magazines Launch Party and the International Students Fashion Show. Importantly, the brand has expanded  by releasing vests, jumpers and hoodies to its collection. Rest assured, Animinimal continues to prove that it is the perfect bedfellow/companion for the tee-shirt and jeans types and hedonist club goers. The sky is the limit for this brand which we acknowledged as one of our favourite collections in the 2013 International Student Fashion Show. Love, Share & Be Inspired.

Chomicz Fashion,

Notably, her inspiration for her individual pieces have come from historical clothing particularly 18th century and musical instruments. One of her pieces was inspired by the shape of a cello which was adapted to the human body. In effect, we believe that her designs are suited for both the runway and individuals who are willing to make bold and extraordinary fashion statements. Enjoy, Share and Be Inspired.

A Young Heart, Presenting Bronagh Monahan [En Amour]

BM 1

Belfast bred  singer/songwriter Bronagh Monahan , has slowly been captivating audiences in the thriving Glasgow music scene. We were invited to the Arches Glasgow on the 20th of February to witness first hand her stellar live performance in support of songstress Rae Morris. Upon arrival, shades of turquoise illuminated the entire venue and its audience remained cloaked in darkness. Appearing from the shadows, Bronagh appeared a bit nervous but confident. As she performed, her arresting vocals remained haunting yet fragile over somber piano keys. Her musings of men and relationships reflected an artist that sang with conviction, sincerity and wisdom above her years.

After her performance, we interviewed Bronagh about her music and eclectic fashion taste.

BM2

MimosaLife -Is there a strong correlation between your fashion taste and your music?

BronaghI guess so, my fashion taste can change everyday and its the same with my music. I’m pretty open to a lot of styles. However, I like to, both in my music and clothing, keep things classic a lot of the time. There are certain fashion pieces that will never go out of style eg leather jackets, a good pair of jeans, ballet pumps. And in music a lot can be said for being classically trained, I studied Classical Singing at university. I understand what the fundamentals of music are and know what is pleasing to the ear…well I hope so anyway!

????????????????????????????????????

MimosaLife – What era or time period greatly influences your fashion tastes and preference?

Bronagh – I love looking at photos of French fashion in the 60’s and 70’s. Women were so chic and had impeccable style. They like to mix feminine pieces eg A line skirts, shift dresses with a masculine edge eg fitted collared shirts. I love this look, particularly that of Brigitte Bardot, her makeup and hair always looked incredible.

BM4

MimosaLife – What are the fashion essentials that you can not live without?

BronaghProbably my dark pink Pea coat, it has quarter length sleeves and black buttons, a good coat will last you for years. My black leather shopper bag I got from H and M, I can carry my whole life in it. Silk scarves, good for putting colour into an outfit. And my jeans, always jeans.

~BM 5

Mimosa Life  – Who are your top three Fashion influences?

BronaghA girl called Lily Millers, she has a fashion blog LLYMLRS, I love her style its so accessible for people on a budget like me and her site always gives me high street options! And if money were no object, I’m always inspired by Kate Bosworth, she wears the most beautiful clothes and also Miranda Kerr, perfection.

BM 6

MimosaLifeMusic today is quite image conscious, most artists are increasingly becoming identifiable by their own signature style, what are you thoughts?

BronaghI certainly think there is the question of whether an artist is marketable or not and this can depend on them having a great sense of style. Its made me more aware of the way I present myself, I quite enjoy this though. Being a musician means you put yourself out there to be watched/listened to and if you can do it with a great outfit on then why not!
