It may be snowing in London and some of us might still have the odd bit of Christmas lying around the house, but Spring is right around the corner. Spring is a time of rejuvenation and fresh starts – a time to clean out your wardrobe and get rid of all the things you never, ever wear. Give it all to charity and make some space for the key trends of Spring/Summer 2013.
Firstly, the key piece you need to snap up to make the transition from Winter to Spring effortless is, surprisingly, a bomber jacket. The beautiful bomber jackets seen on the catwalk at Loewe, with contrasting sheer mesh sleeves and embossed with roses and birds are something to lust after. But plenty of variations can be found on the high street at affordable prices. Look for a leather bomber, to keep it more sophisticated and less sports field.
Do not retire any of your party season sparkles – embellishment, metallics and shimmer is still to be coveted, even though your New Year’s Eve hangover is long forgotten. Louis Vuitton used the smallest sequins that have ever been produced for their Spring/Summer collection; pearls were dotted like polka dots on garments at Chanel and the Viktor & Rolf collection was inspired my mirrors. So stick with the sparkles and try to find the last remaining bits of glitz in the sales!
The shoes worth chasing after at the moment, are ones which you can actually run in – Moschino Cheap and Chic controversially sent their models down the catwalk in Nike Air Max trainers, whilst Alexander McQueen has paired up with Puma to produce some seriously stylish sneakers (which are currently on sale and less than half price).
Although both daring neon and sweet pastels contribute to the new season colour palette, classic white was the most predominantly used shade on the runway. Minimalism was celebrated at Jill Sander, whilst Missoni, Cavalli and Pucci all opened their shows with all white canvases.
Appropriately, the fabulous people at Mimosa and Glasgow University Fashion Society have chosen to exploit one of Spring/Summer’s key trends for their first event of 2013 with ‘CASABLANCA‘ – an all white themed soiree at Saint Judes on January 30th. Tickets are already selling out fast so be sure to buy yours soon. I myself, have my eye on a very Stella McCartney inspired white bodycon dress with mesh detail, or of course there’s a little white sequin number on my clothes rail as back up!
